Drone Trucks

The autopilot test of passenger cars is in full swing. At present, at least 20 companies in China have obtained road test licenses. Recently, companies that focus on automated truck driving have also been tested.

On November 30th, Zhijia Technology obtained a road driving license for driving trucks in Jiangsu. On November 28th, Qicheer Technology obtained a road test license in Baoding, Hebei. In October, Tucson and China National Heavy Duty Truck were in Shanghai and respectively. Jinan obtained an autopilot test license for unmanned truck testing.

Xijing Technology, Debon, Jingdong, and rookie are also doing research on truck automatic driving.

Autopilot is divided into 6 levels according to the degree of automation, rising from L0 to L5. Currently, autopilot research in most companies is concentrated at the L3 and L4 levels.

The L3 level refers to a high degree of automatic driving. The system can decide to turn and control the acceleration and deceleration by itself. It can observe the road conditions (such as traffic lights, pedestrians, roadside conditions, etc.), but still needs the driver to deal with special situations.

The L4 level refers to ultra-high-level automatic driving. The system automatically makes all driving operations, no longer requires the driver to give instructions, but generally limits the driving area. The L5 fully automatic driving can automatically travel in all road conditions without the need of a driver.

What is the difference with a passenger car?

Although both unmanned and unmanned passenger cars are driverless cars, the factors to be considered are not exactly the same due to different scenarios and purposes.

Tucson's future COO Hao Jianan said on the interface news that compared to the unmanned passenger car with lidar as the main sensing solution, the truck can not meet the demand because of the higher quality and longer braking distance, so the driverless truck The main thing is visual perception, which is the image captured by the camera.

The front and the trailer of the truck are non-rigid body connection structures. The hanging box has a large wind surface, and the center of gravity of the cargo also affects the driving itself. Therefore, the unmanned truck has higher control requirements.
